Akismet Plugin: Instantly Kills Spam Comments

Say goodbye to spam!
Spam comments are as annoying as pop-up advertisements. Imagine yourself going through hundred of comments and getting rid of them all through multiple clicks… Very time-consuming and tedious, right?
Now, think about automatic spam filter to improve your blogging experience. Professional and amateur bloggers alike value every minute spend online so each second really counts. Save yourself from hitting the delete button and focus on publishing quality contents instead. Exceptional posts deserve high-quality comments and conversational remarks, not sales pitches or advertising spiels.
I just activated the Akismet plugin on my Momentary Life blog so might as well share the activation process here:
1. Login to your self-hosted WordPress blog.
2. Click “Plugins”. Akismet is deactivated by default under the list of plugins.
3. Click the “Activate” link for Akismet. If Akismet is not listed under plugins, you may directly download it here.
4. Enter your WordPress.com API key on the link provided to complete the activation process. Even if your blogs are on wordpress.org, you need to have an account with wordpress.com to get an API key. You can find the API key by going to your WordPress.com Dashboard>Users>Personal Settings.
5. Click the “Comments” section of your Dashboard if you want to see the “spam” comments captured by Akistmet plugin. You can also double check the filtered comments for false positives. These are comments that are inaccurately tagged as spam even if they’re not.
For the Akismet Stats widget, simply insert this code in your template:
<?php akismet_counter(); ?>
Akismet plugin is really helpful in several ways:
• Fights spam comments automatically.
• Boost SEO by blocking the spammers from bringing down your site’s Page Rank.
• Free! No monthly fees for personal blogs.
• Easy to install and manage.
Let your blogs be spam-free! Focus on writing contents, not on deleting spam comments. This way, you have all the time to make more money online!

I think Intense Debate has Akismet feature too, I’ve just use it recently in my blog and I noticed that since I opt for Akismet feature in Intense Debate, I only get to moderate real comments.
